What is an RPEQ?
In Queensland, providing professional engineering services is restricted by law (the Professional Engineers Act 2002). Unless directly supervised by a registered engineer, the person carrying out or certifying that work must be a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ): assessed as competent, bound by a code of practice, required to maintain continuing professional development, and accountable to the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland (BPEQ).
Practically, that means engineering designs for many Queensland projects are not legally deliverable until an RPEQ in the relevant discipline takes professional responsibility for them. When an RPEQ signs a design, a registered, accountable engineer is standing behind it.

Kevin Kelly holds RPEQ registration 14266 in two disciplines: Electrical and Information, Telecommunications and Electronics. The second discipline covers software-bearing and telecommunications systems, which is why both sides of this business (electrical engineering and software) operate under registered professional accountability.
