Mentoring & Leadership

I mentor and coach early-career electrical engineers, bringing 15+ years of guiding junior engineers and leading E&I teams to your corner. The focus stays on you: getting to RPEQ, mastering the software and tools that make you faster, and growing into a capable, trusted engineer. Real practice, not theory (RPEQ 14266 | CPEng | NER | MIEAust).

What I coach

The path to RPEQ

A clear line from graduate to Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, mapped by someone who has walked it and signs off as an RPEQ today.

  • Plotting the RPEQ / CPEng pathway and Stage 2 competencies
  • Building and structuring your competency evidence and CPD record
  • The technical breadth assessors look for, and where to get it
  • Working under, and learning from, a registered sign-off culture
  • Interview, portfolio, and chartered-claim review

Engineering software & tools

The modern toolkit that separates a fast engineer from a slow one, taught by an E&I engineer who also ships production software.

  • Calculation, classification, and documentation tooling done right
  • Building your own engineering tools instead of fighting spreadsheets
  • Using AI to work faster without losing engineering rigour
  • Version control, traceability, and quality-by-default habits

Becoming a trusted engineer

Mentoring drawn from 15+ years leading and developing engineers, to help you deliver real work, build judgment you can defend, and grow into someone the team relies on.

  • Building engineering judgment you can stand behind
  • Owning your work: scope, schedule, and quality
  • Working well within an engineering team
  • Communicating engineering to clients and non-engineers
  • Navigating the step from graduate to trusted engineer

Leadership track record

The mentoring is grounded in having done the job at the front of the room. A snapshot of the management and leadership experience behind it:

Engineering management

Led electrical and instrumentation engineers, electricians, and subcontractors as technical authority across coal seam gas, fuel, and process projects, including international E&I team management on a Papua New Guinea secondment.

Product management

Owned smart electricity, gas, and water metering products end to end across Australia and New Zealand: roadmaps, feature backlogs, certification. Pragmatic I-III; SAFe POPM / SSM.

Project & delivery management

Scope, schedule, risk, and budget on multi-disciplinary engineering delivery, backed by a Graduate Certificate in Project Management (QUT), with quality control, inspection and test planning, and RPEQ documentation sign-off.

Mentoring & development

Over 15 years mentoring junior electrical, mechanical, and software engineers on real projects: the day-to-day coaching this page now offers more widely.

How it works

Mentoring is offered flexibly: a one-off direction-setting session, an RPEQ pathway plan, or ongoing check-ins as you build evidence and take on bigger work. Sessions run by video call, tailored to where you are. Tell me your goal and where you are in your career and I'll suggest a fit.
